The Protection of Badgers Act 1992 makes it illegal to do any of the following:

  • Wilfully, injure or take, or attempt to kill, injure or take, a badger.
  • Possess any dead badger or any part of, or anything derived from, a dead badger.
  • Be cruel to or ill-treat a badger.
  • Use any badger tongs in the course of killing or taking, or attempting to kill or take, a badger.
  • Dig for a badger.
  • Damage a badger sett or any part of it.
  • Destroy a badger sett.
  • Obstruct access to, or any entrance of, a badger sett.
  • Cause a dog to enter a badger sett.
  • Disturb a badger when it is occupying a badger sett.
  • Sell or offer for sale a live badger, or be in possession of a live badger.
